Strangelove..

Zomg!! V's book is out on September 25th and Stargate Atlantis starts up on September 29th. My brain is going to explode in one week!!

Tonight, I mustered up some courage and posted about Vishious's taste in BDSM. I'm a little worried cos after reading Emma Holly's Top of Her Game, I'm not so confident that romance writers can handle the subject. Then again Emma Holly couldn't write sexy sex if her life depended on it so there really is no comparison.

But instead of being all focused on the BDSM and will Jane or won't Jane be into it, I'd rather look at the V as an entire character not just one who likes rough sex. I think his sexual preferences are a great source of confusion for him. He already has to deal with losing his visions and Butch but perhaps there is some horrible tragedy that he has kept secret. The visions are a blessing and a curse really but this thing that haunts him, this terrible secret he shares with no one, drives his character forward.

Either V's book's gonna jump the shark with too much focus on his sexuality or blow my mind with it's brilliance!

Welcome to the Paranormal!

This whole romance novel thing began when Stargate went on hiatus for the summer and I had a little break before the madness of Harry Potter!July began. I wandered into the Romance section of the bookstore and took a look. Now, romance novels just aren't my thing. In my head they have this stigma of being overly sappy, poorly written and consumable in a few hours. Having said that and also lack of good reading materials until Harry Potter, I decide to jump into the pool of romance with both feet.

My foray into romance begins with Emma Holly and ends with Jacki Frank and JR Ward. Seeing how I am enjoying both of the latter writers, I doubt seriously I will read any more of the genre even tho’ other writers have been recommended. I have more than enough on my plate now and desert is on the way.

This blog is for me to comment, squee and rant about the Brothers' world mostly with some occasional Jacob and Gideon thrown in ‘cuz I've got paranormal romantic ADD. I will admit it. I'm totally hooked on JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

So I'll jump right in and get to work.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood is a group of warrior class vampires who are fighting these horrid kids called the lessers to save their species from extinction. The Lessoning Society kids follow this spirit called the Omega, Ward's version of Sauron. They are the 'undead' who have white hair, reek of baby powder and have serious behavioral issues: torture, homicide, insanity etc.. The brothers dress in leather, have a fondness for rap music, and are painfully good looking while taking the idea of behavioral issues to a new level. *looks longingly at Zsadist's book*

Each book is focused around an individual Brother while the war with the Lessers rages in the background. Each Brother has his own cross to carry but generally finds relief in mating with the "female" persuasion. I constantly have to remember these are romance books. Every guy is a hero. Behind him is a heroine who needs to be rescued (in some fashion) and adored. It's sorta like the Mariah Carey song Hero mixed with BYOB from System of a Down.

The world's not too complex, but it completely sucked me in.

DISCLAIMER: These are Ward's toys. I don't own them. I just provide a twisted running commentary. The same goes for Frank and anyone else whom I happen to toss into the mix. I claim all the errors and typos.

It'll be a while before I run out of things to say, so get comfy.

Everybody's going to the party have a real good time.
Then a hero comes along with the strength to carry on..
